Happy Easter everybody!! I hope everyone has had a blessed holiday weekend with their friends and family.
Today I'm showing you a card that I made using the wreath image from Sunshine's Stamps. I've used this image before but with fall colors and this time I wanted to use it with lighter colors and what other color would I use but my favorite............AQUA!! :o)
This is for a challenge at SNR Card Universe where you can actually get this awesome image to make a card for the challenge!
I'm still working on taking better pics with my new SLR camera.......as you can see.........its still a work in progress. I'll keep plugging away at it and you can check here to follow my progress or lack thereof......LOL

Spring is in the air and I wanted to make a card with some nice spring colors and images and used Happy Chick from Sunshine's Stamps. The sentiment is a freebie that I got at AIFactory. I'm going to enter this card in a couple of spring themed challenges that are going on this week.
The first one is at Fab 'n' Funky Challenges as well as the Crafty Cardmakers Blog Challenge this week.
I hope I didn't shock you all with blog posts 2 days in a row..........so hold onto your hats for this...........I'm gonna post another one later today and most likely another one tomorrow! OK, OK..........pick your jaws up off the floor. :o)~

I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend and I wanted to show you the Easter card I made with Robbie Bunny which is one of Sunshine's Stamps newest digital images. Isn't he just so cute!! I colored the image using my Prisma Markers and used a pre-embossed card that I bought at M's quite a long time ago. The box of pre-embossed cards was on sale and I can't resist a sale...........but then I have a different dilemna........Do I really want to use them or hoard them for another time? *sigh*
I've decided to use my *stash* and try to get rid of my "hoarding because its pretty and I might not get it on sale again" philosophy. LOL
This card is also going to be entered in this challenge at dareU2digistamp who's theme this week is Easter as well as the "Fill Your Boots" Challenge at PaperTake Weekly.
Check back tomorrow and Sunday for a couple more cards featuring digital images from Sunshine's Stamps and more supplies from my "don't use it 'cause its pretty stash". :o)

I used my nesties under my image which I cut out using my Cutter Bee scissors. I used my MS Punch for the heart border and my SU Boho Blossom punch for the flowers.

Wow.........I can't believe its been so long since I've posted! I've been in a bit of a crafting funk lately and I'm hoping the New Year brings lots of mojo my way. :o)
Here is a quick card I made yesterday morning for friends that we were spending New Years Eve with. I hope everyone had a good holiday with their nearest and dearest. Santa was good to me as I'm sure you can tell from the pic of this card which was taken with the awesome Sony A330 DSLAR camera that DH got me for Xmas. :o)

Nurse Bunny 2010 Planner

Here is my latest project using Nurse Bunny from Sunshine's Stamps. The Planner on the right is what I started with(from the dollar bins at M's) and the planner on the left is what I came up with. I think its just so cute and the colors matched up so well. I resized the image and colored it using my Paint program. Its going to be a great little gift for some fellow co-workers.

This is Nurse Bunny and she is too cute! I had lots of fun making projects to feature her this week. This is a card I made using the image and my favorite color aqua. I then printed and colored the image and used Mod Podge to make a cute fridge magnet. Guess what my co-workers are getting for Christmas this year?!I got the magnets in the "dollar" section of my local Michaels and there are 2 in a package with a nice design on them.........but Nurse Bunny makes them much more interesting and fun!

I then resized Nurse Bunny (I LOVE that about digital images) and colored her and adhered her to the back of a clipboard for my new clipboard for work. Makes it alot more fun to look at. They say that anyone that carries a clipboard and walks fast looks important.......I'll have to get back to ya and let you know if it works after work today!

Still Thinking Pink with a Quilt and Boobie Bunny

I'm still having so much fun playing with Boobie Bunny as Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues. This is a card I made for a friend who wanted the card for her mother who is a breast cancer survivor. I found the pink ribbon image online and shrank it down and printed them and punched them out with my 1" punch and punched some pink DP as well I then Cuttlebugged all the pieces and put them in a quilt pattern on a white piece of Cardstock that I also Cuttlebugged and then scalloped the edges of. Boobie Bunny has a pretty pink dress that I paper pieced. Who says that digital stamps aren't versatile?! Boobie Bunny is from Sunshine's Stamps signature line of Sunny Buny digital images. I'll have some new projects posted on Saturday for Sunshine's Blog Hop so be sure to check back............there's Blog Candy on the Blog Hop!
This card is also for the new challenge blog on the "Just us Girls" challenge blog which was to use paper piecing and pink if possible.

Its Fall!

It sure feels like fall around here now (despite the snow we had here last weekend) and the leaves are changing and its getting dark earlier. Here's a card to celebrate Fall and Thanksgiving. Its a digital stamp of a wreath from Sunshine's Stamps and its available free with the purchase of any 2 other digital stamps from Sunshine's Stamps on October 17th-20th as a Grand Opening Special. As you can probably tell from my latest creations, Boobie Bunny from Sunshine's Stamps has to be one of my all time favorites from her signature line called Sunny Bunny. This card is for Challenge # 51 Pretty in Pink on the Cuttlebug Spot Blog. I didn't put a sentiment on the front as I think the Pink Ribbon earrings that Boobie Bunny is wearing says it all. :o)

Here is one of my latest cards using one of Sunshine's Stamps newest digital images from her Signature Line of Sunny Bunny. This cutie is called "Weewy Scaaawey Bunny" and I just love him. The sentiment is stamped with a dollar stamp I got at Michaels (ok, ok, we're in Canada, so the dollar stamps are actually a buck fifty here). This is for the Halloween card challenge this week on the 2 Red Bananas Blog and Cuttlebug Challenge #52. I didn't do any sewing on this card, so it looks a little nekkid to me. :o)

This is Boobie Bunny and I just LOVE her! I just finished working a 16 hr double shift and couldn't wait to get home and finish the card and post it. This is for the challenge this week on Digital Tuesday which is "heart to heart". The sketch is from Sweet Sketch Wednesday Sketch #17 and there is some embossing inside the buttons for the embossing challenge on the ABC Challenge Blog.

I am just too excited to use an image from Sunshine's Stamps for my drought breaking card. Christina has a new line called Sunny Bunny and I have to say.........I just think they're the cutest! This card is actually for 3 challenges! The sketch is from Tuesday Morning Sketches, the Circles are for the ABC Challenge this week and the Crafty Creations challenge this week was to use at least 3 DP's.......and I've used 4 different DP's from my TAC stash. I used some Diamond Glaze on the toilet seat to make it nice and shiny. The beauty of Flushie is he never has to be cleaned! LOL

My DH is celebrating his new job this week and I made him this card using Tipsy McStagger, one of the newest digital images from Sunshine's Stamps. I used my Summer Sunrise paper from PTI and a cuttlebugged background. My beer "foam" has some sparkle in it since it's a celebration(ok, ok, its really Christmas foam............but it does look all pretty and party-like) :o)

Introducing Clammy Pete.........ummmmmmmm with gender identity issues. :o) This is Pete's female version and its one of the newest Ocean Dwellers digital stamps from Sunshine's Stamps. I used my lacy MS border punch to make a pretty edge and lots of pearls for the Digital Tuesday challenge #22. I colored "Pete" with my Prisma markers and then used a pink Sakura gel sparkle pen to cover it and give it some "bling". I colored him with my Prisma markers and the sentiment is very simple because its for my DH *giggle* who CANNOT remember when garbage day is! I'm going to keep giving him this card every week until he gets it right. And just when he gets it right, there will be a civic holiday of some sort and garbage day will get pushed back a day and I'll have to start all over again. *sigh*

Here is my latest card using one of Sunshine's Stamps newest digital images. It's called Lester Lobster(but I think he was named at the end of a loooooooooooong day at Sunshine's house and is really a crab LOL). I've used buttons for the ABC Challenge that I've discovered this week and can't wait to play and create more challenges there. This weeks challenge is "B for Buttons" and I'm always looking to use buttons on my cards.
This next card is using Hayseed Hank from Sunshine's Stamps digital images. I'm sure all of us have a male figure that this would make a great card or scrapbook layout for..........whether they're a redneck or not. The next image I'm going to color with a black and red checked hat! I've used Sketch #15 from the PaperTake Weekly challenge which is to chose one of the past 100 challenges. okay...........some people might think that title is an oxymoron........and ya know.......they could be right.........:o) LOL. But I couldn't resist using that sentiment on this card using one of the newest digital images from Sunshine's Stamps!

The inside of the card is perfect for the Moby card.........in my opinion. My DH wasn't nearly as amused. LMAO

Thats right..............my BIL Robbie is an amazing artist and designed this stamp for Sunshine's Stamps. I've had so much playing with it. I painted it on my Paint program and printed it on Shrinky Dinky Plastic for printers and voila.........I have a new stethoscope charm!! Isn't she the cutest? :o)

I then enlarged the image and used an iron on transfer and applied it to a t-shirt with my name for work. The possibilities are endless with these digital images!

Here is a sneak peek of another digital image that Sunshine's Stamps will be releasing this week. Check out her blog for all the past FREE images that alot of us have had fun playing with over the past month! I used a sketch challenge from The Pink Elephant Challenge, but didn't get the card finished and entered in time as I worked a double shift yesterday. I used the colors pink, orange and green so that I could play along with this weeks challenge #24 on Colour Create. The colors also fit the inspired challenge # 26 on Crafty Creations as well using the artwork of Lauren Alexander for inspiration. And I of course used the cute Mr Smoothie digital image from Sunshine's Stamps, so it also qualifies for this weeks challenge at Digital Tuesday Challenge whose challenge was "simplify". No cuttlebugging on this card and no ribbon makes it a simple card in my world. I think I get a little twitchy when I don't use my cuttlebug or ribbon. LOL

You Mean the World to Me......................

Here is one of the latest digital images that is going to be available August 5th from Sunshine's Stamps. Its called Space Shuttle and it is so much fun to color and create with. The inside of the card has the sentiment...."You mean the world to me". I used the sketch challenge from the eatsleepstamp challenge blog. It also is for the challenge on Kaboodle Doodles which is a challenge for any digital stamp. I colored it with my Prisma pencil crayons and used my clear glitter pen to highlight alot of the image. The paper is from SU and I used my Fiskars ScrapBoss to emboss stars all over the background of the card which is 5 1/2x 5 1/2.

I was actually productive today and made 2 cards AND made cookies and cooked supper. :o)
The first card I worked on was for Gina K's Color challenge using pink and green. I used an image from CHF by Julie Stainton and its just too cute. I mixed Pearl Ex with hairspray and sprayed it over the white cardstock and it does give it a pretty sheen.

The second card I made was using the new free digital image from Sunshine's Stamps called Super Bird Race Car. I "blinged" up the car with stickles and used the stamped sentiment "Gaudy is Good".

Here it is! The newest digital image from Sunshine's Stamps! You can get your own free digital image by just giving Sunshine a quick email. I colored my image with Sharpies, Bics and Prisma markers and then "popped" it out on the postage stamp background that I cut using my new Slice that I won for $91 in a "silent" auction on a blog. I'm LOVING IT!! So many fun things to do with it.

Penny Black/Card Patterns/Cuttlebug Spot Challenge...........its a 3 in 1!!

I really wanted to attempt to do one card that fulfilled the requirements of at least 2 challenges that I found on the Daily Dare bog. I've seen people do cards that meet the requirements of 5 or more challenges......and I'm amazed that they can do it! I was actually able to do this card and fulfill the requirements of 3 challenges! YEAH ME! I love the aqua mist paper from PTI. Just patiently waiting for them to get the new ink that matches the cardstock. The image is a PIF image from Penny Black and its for the Penny Black Challenge Soft and Sweet. I colored it with watercolor pencils and used my Dove Blender Pen to blend the pencil. I used the sketch challenge from the Card Patterns blog. I actually "finished" the inside of the card with DP and some sewing for the Cuttlebug Spot Challenge although my embossing was the Swiss Dot folder I used on the main part of the card.I left the inside blank so that it could more versatile...........as in "Wishing you Good Luck" or "Wishing you a Happy Birthday" etc..... I'm really pleased with how the card turned out.

I had a little problem coming up with sentiments until I put my mind to it and now I think I've seen and herd them all *snicker* Get yourself mooooo-ving over the Sunshine's blog and get your very own Malcolm Milk Truck to play with!
The sentiment for the first card is "Don't have a cow......." and continues on the inside with "You're not THAT old"
My second card is Malcolm all decked out for Christmas. I had lots of fun playing with these images and have lots of other sentiments to use with the image.

Here is a card I made for the Gina K sketch challenge this week using the saddle image from the Gina K Stamp set "Out West"(Thanks Jen!). I colored my image with watercolor pencils and added some silver gel pens for the buckles. I played around with a bunch of different papers, but ended up using some paper I think I got at the local Buck or 2 Store with some jute cord as my "ribbon". I did some sewing on this card as well. I found it hard to "step away" from the sewing machine...........Just when is there too much sewing on a card? LOL

Patrick the Police Car is the newest image from the "Everyday Hero's" Line. I had alot of fun working with this image. I colored it with my Prisma markers and used some glitter pens and Diamond Glaze for the windshield, the sunglasses and the lights. Lenny Loader Party Favor

Here's another idea for using the new digital image from Sunshine's Stamps. I played around with it in my Paint Program and colored it there and then printed it off. I made the "fry containers" from a template I found on the 'net and voila! Party Favor Containers which could even be personalized with the party goer's names. Lenny Loader and Angus Argus are still free digital images, so head over to Sunshine's Stamps and get yours! There is a new digital image coming later today............so stay tuned for that one........its a cutie!!

Isn't she the cutest! I have taken the brand spankin' new digital image from Sunshine's Stamps and changed it from Lenny to Lenora with my pretty pink Sharpie! I printed the sentiment off using my Paint program and added some bling and did the border with a Valentine's Martha Stewart Punch. The DP is from Basic Grey and off course I've done some sewing on the card as its my newest and favorite way to add to my cards. Sewing on Cards.......another Gina K Technique Challenge

Oh my goodness.........Gina K has created a monster! A sewing monster that is. I have wanted to have sewing on my cards for so long and my 1st attempt wasn't pretty so I've been reluctant to attempt it again. That is until I saw Gina K's tutorial on StampTV and I promised myself I'd attempt the challenge. I am too excited that I was finally able to figure out how to do the zig zag stitch!! DH doesn't exactly have the same amount of excitement that I do.......but he was suitably impressed.....*grin*. Hope you like my card......its for a chat box chick that's a little under the weather.

Gina K Sketch Challenge

This was my entry to the Gina K stampTV sketch challenge last Thursday. It was also the Father's Day card I made for my daughter to give to my DH. The images were from a PIF exchange on SCS that I cut out individually after coloring with my Prisma markers. I did the "fly" on the tent twice and popped it up and put threads from it to the bottom of the tent to give the illusion of tent ropes. The sentiment is from a set I got from Artful Inkables. They have some lovely stamps! The paper is from SU. DH loved it.......we both hope to get some camping in this summer, but with vacation and other time conflicts it may be difficult to get more than a couple nights away. *sigh* Oh well..........2 nights camping is better than none!

Here are a couple cards I made this weekend for the Gina K challenges over at StampTV. My favorite is the blue one as I'm partial to blues and aqua's. I tried to work on them yesterday but couldn't seem to find my mojo until I got up this morning. I think my mojo goes into hiding when I work night shifts! LOL
I better get back at some more creating. I'm working nights again this week ( I switched from days to nights to help out with the staffing situation)........and we are dealing with a H1N1 flu outbreak here in Winnipeg and working in Emergency puts us directly in contact with ALOT of people.......some sick......and some not. *fingers crossed* that they don't end up cancelling our vacation time this summer.

I've had an extremely lucky week with winning some awesome blog candy. First I won some great stuff from True and I got to pick my prize........I chose the one with the double sided ink daubers that I've been wanting to try since seeing them on her blog. Check her blog out for some amazing cards! I wanna make cards like that when I grow up........*rolls eyes at the thoughts of how old that would be.........70?* LOL
Then I won a $25 Gift Certificate from Impression-Obsession on Tina's blog. Wow.....I have no idea how I'm going to narrow my choices down to $25. This is a card I made for the sketch challenge this week on Stamp TV. The beach chair and umbrella are from the Gina K stamp set "You are my Sunshine". The striped paper is from a local dollar store and the aqua paper is from PTI. I have always loved the color aqua and I guess it shows in the cards I make. Good thing there are lots of card challenges around to get me out of my comfort zone! The color challenge on Stamp TV this week is Kraft, Eggplant and Baja(or any similar blue-green). That will definitely take me out of my "comfort zone" color wise.........and thats gotta be a good thing! :o)

I am going to preface this missive with a warning, assuming that the reader is not jaded beyond all recognition. I am going to offend some of you, challenge some, or perhaps generate complete indifference in others. I am also going to make yet another clear and unequivocal statement: while I do wish to convey my impressions and ruminations, I absolutely do not care in which way I offend your sensibilities. This may explain that my promotion within the military, if some read this, may require an act of God, or divine intervention, if you will. So be it. I will not violate operational security, for what is related is public knowledge. But to all those who wish to bring me into line for some imagined offense, to you I say: either suck it up, and get a real life, or put your money where your mouth is, and charge me. I will also refer to my brothers and sisters in the fraternity of arms as "We." Where I wish to express my own opinion (on events related) I will use the word...you guessed it. Thank you. I will try something new here, and relate the events of the last few days in reverse order, and begin with where my morning started, just an hour ago. I will attempt reverse psychology and deal with the post event analysis prior to the event mentioned. I emerged from my tent this morning, temporarily blinded by sunshine, to the sound of two helicopters banking on final to Kandahar Air Field. They are Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawks, and we both love and dread the sight of them. People who would rather waste Canadian taxpayers money on Carbon Credits to assist the People's Republic of China offset its appalling disregard for the environment and human rights record, pay attention. We could use a few of these, and try to remember that we can vote also. The UH-60 Blackhawks are green mechanical angels of mercy, emblazoned with the distinctive and unapologetic Red Cross symbol. They are also on occasion harbingers of a cargo of death and suffering. Either way, we love and respect the American crewmen and crew women (insecure Canadian racists take note) who work in them, day in, and day out. It is their job. They do it for the same reason that some wish to be doctors or firefighters or kindergarten teachers. They want to save lives, to make a difference. We track them with our eyes and mentally bless them: those of us who pray for their mission success do so, but all nations gathered here, and scores of Afghans wounded by Islamist lunatics, appreciate their mission. Many Canadian soldiers have been recipients of their care. Yesterday, we witnessed the return of a sister to Canada whose time had ran out, for whom UH-60 Blackhawks, modern technology, expert aeromedical care, and the frantic efforts of her friends and comrades were insufficient. I prefaced her tragic mode of return to Canada by finding out about her, so that I could personalize my respects. I was on duty yesterday, and as such was not required to attend the repatriation ceremony, (although I would not miss attending for any reason.) I stole some time to find out more about Trooper Karine Blais. I found out all I needed to know on CBC, and then took the calculated risk of reading some of the comments made by the public upon her death. Of course it was a mistake....pencil-neck armchair experts pontificating from the comfort of their easy chairs about the virtues or ills of the Afghanistan mission did little more than clarify my rage over the event itself. I will therefore elect to include but two comments: and am thus exercising my right to purvey my opinion and exclude other opinions, opinions that I deem less relevant, informed, or even worthy of note at all. It is what subject matter experts in commentaries and blogs do. Petawawa female soldier writes: "People who leave messages for or against this war, I have something to tell you: this is not the time and place to write such comments." Another commentator which passes this litmus test of time and place is Paul from Saskatoon. "Soldiers hate.....absolutely hate being treated like either victims or felons. Please stop insulting them by bringing (your) politics into the debate." The remainder of my commentary shall be entirely free of political or social commentary, for what follows has nothing to do with opinion, yours or mine. Rather, it is the account of a precious young life cut brutally short by the actions of islamofacist supremacists who bear no good will to any resident of this war-torn land.Trooper Karine Blais, aged 21, was barely two weeks into her tour of duty, as a member of the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22 Regiment (the famed "Van Doos") based at CFB Valcartier in Quebec. She died after her vehicle rolled over an IED in the Wali Kowt district, at around 5pm local, on Monday. Four of her comrades are seriously wounded, to the extent that they could not attend her repatriation ceremony. Terms flow easily from journalistic keyboards, as if her gender was even an issue for us. "2nd Canadian female to die in Afghanistan," "117th Canadian soldier." My personal number of repatriation parades, and none of this sentence is quoted in passing or in the abstract, is that for me, Karine is the ninth too many.As on previous occasions, we muster at the appointed time. Thousands of us, from nations across this planet show up displaying our best possible drill, dress, discipline, and deportment. We share a common bond that only a fool would question or give negative voice to on this night. The plaintive lament on the bagpipes makes an instrument the mode of communication; the sound of sadness and loss we dare not display or give voice to during the ceremony itself. For us, the best way of displaying respect is for thousands of officers and non-commissioned members alike to salute the fallen, regardless of rank or job description, because Karine, the professional soldier, gave 100% for her country. She did this knowing the risks, because she wanted for whatever reason, of her own volition, to make changes in her world through her chosen profession, and it is an honourable one. The LAV III pulls up, the casket is gently removed, and the pallbearers approach, flanked on all sides by troops saluting at attention. I truly regret my rudimentary understanding of French during the eulogy. I understand enough that she was an enthusiastic member of her team, with a quirky sense of humour. She was not averse to humour at her own expense, a vital precondition for military service. She was nicknamed "Kermit." I think of her photograph as the casket passes in front of me borne by six brothers and two sisters. She was but a few years older than my 17 year old daughter Sarah, with the same pretty, clear skin, vivid blue eyes, and brunette hair. Her "media portrait" is of a mischevious young woman with barely enough discipline to repress a smile, young, idealistic, and full of promise. I think of my Sarah and imagine the horror the Blais family is going through, and I have already enjoined the Padre's prayers with my own upon their behalf. I think of Mario Blais, mother Josee, and brother Billy. As much as it is possible for a complete stranger to the family to do, I feel their pain and regret.We are dismissed and dispersed, and I march off the ramp behind a military ambulance and weep with those that weep at home. Three of my comrades, parents of young daughters all, come up and embrace me as I say, "I'm a father too." There is no need for more words.....we know. Words fail at such times, for they are insufficient, and "a fool is known for his much speaking." And so here and now I will stop writing, and offer my sincere condolences to the Blais family, may God bless you. We will not forget her, or her sacrifice.Mes sympathies a toute sa famille.

A Journal Entry From Afghanistan

LEST WE FORGET

It is a cool and pleasant evening tonight, with a gentle breeze. (Day and time withheld). We walk onto the apron at Kandahar Airfield, (KAF) Sgt. Amos in the lead. No one is talking, we are alone in our thoughts.As members of 435 Sqn., Tactical Airlift Unit, we will be the first to form up and among the last to leave. We have the heavy and privileged task of forming an honour guard, aft and parallel to the starboard wing of CC130 Hercules AC#343. As maintainers of the aircraft, we will form up in three ranks, on either side of the loading ramp. I am third from the left, next to Sgt. Amos and the Captain. We stand easy and wait. The melody of the bagpipes wafts over to us on the night air, as a lone piper plays "A Scottish soldier." Motorized lighting units bracket 343's aft fuselage, and they telescope to their full extent with a low whine, as KAF comes alive in front of us. A Chinese contract worker tests the microphone 10 feet in front of us, and orange and white cones are laid to form a path to the Herc loading ramp. They also act as a front row marker for the mass of humanity to form. C.T.V. news personnel and assorted media cluster around the tail; I do not know if I appreciate or despise their presence: I finally decide that some coverage is better than none, though politically correct spin is another issue. Thousands of troops spill onto the field; it takes almost 30 minutes to form them up. Canadian troops are the largest contingent - they are in front on either side of the path forming behind 343. The cones are removed; the R.S.M. (Regimental Sergeant Major) walks smartly down the ranks, gently tapping toes to the line with his pace stick or moving the troops left or right. It seems as if all of humanity is here; mostly Canadians tonight, but also French, Dutch, Slovaks, Bulgarians, Latvians, Ukrainians, Poles, Americans, British, Australians, and others. There are more nations represented, but I do not recognize the flags on their uniforms. I scan the ranks; a quick calculation gives an estimate of at least 8,000 troops not including those I cannot see gathering off the port wing of 343. All stand easy, awaiting the word of command, and never in all my life have I hears such utter silence, not even in church. The low rumble of diesel engines of Canadian LAV III APC's (Armoured Personnel Carriers) is heard approaching from port. The first of four appears, then three more, gliding past in a graceful but somber ballet.Only the turrets, with their cannons at maximum elevation in salute, and their Crew Commanders are visible: it is as if they sail across a sea of gathered humanity. They bank right, their offload ramps facing us, and halt precisely equidistant and in line. The R.S.M. can probably be heard a kilometre away: "Task Force Afghanistan, to your fallen comrade, Atteeehaaah!!" His entire body twists with effort and sheer force. The piper begins his plainly chosen lament, "Over the Sea (to Skye)" and the first casket approaches. Master Corporal Scott Vernelli, "Vern" (28), Cpl. Tyler Crooks (24), Trooper Jack Bouthellier (20), Trooper Corey Joseph Hayer (22). "Vern" leaves behind a young wife and 6 month old daughter. Yet again, mere boys, half my age. They perished in the line of duty on Friday in two separate I.E.D. roadside bombing attacks, while on patrolin the Zhari district. All are from either the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR) or the Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD). The R.S.M. yells "Task Force Afghanistan, to your fallen comrades, salute!" We will hold our salute for perhaps 5 or 6 minutes; it seems like hours, as the caskets of our brothers-in-arms pass through our vale of tears. Some cough, some sniff, some weep openly - but all to a man are unmoving, and rigid in salute. Are we hurt? Yes. Are we lacking in determination and resolve to defeat the forces of evil and darkness? No. Will we ever forget this night? Never. Some of the pallbearers stumble under the weight, both physical and emotional. A tall young man, blonde, with curly hair and a beard, takes charge. "In...out...in...out," he intones. They recover and march up the loading ramp. This procedure is repeated three more times, the media filming and taking snapshots of our grief, which their handlers in Toronto can manipulate to their own devices later. 343 rocks gently and creaks as they enter. The RSM brings us to attention, and the Padre speaks of those young men, their sacrifice, Psalm 23, and the promise of the resurrection to come. We pray; he for the dead, and I ask the Lord to pour out His love and grace upon those poor families at home. The piper has now finished his task with honour, and he marches smartlyleft in front of me, now sobbing like a child. He is followed by the pallbearers, past the three horribly injured survivors of the bombing, lying swathed in bandages, hooked up to IV's and tended by gentle medics who hug them repeatedly as they cry for their brothers. They are thinking "Why me? Why am I still breathing and my buddies aren't?" The RSM calls us to attention, dismisses the Officers, and then us. Right wheel, halt. Cpl. Dave Bower and MCpl. Bob Muise peel off to talk to the wounded; I have another mission. I must view the price of freedom, I must touch the cost of our right to think and speak and worship and vote as we choose. I clamber up the ramp of 343, no-one stops me. I freeze in my tracks, for what I see in front of me will forever be burned into my consciousness. The pallbearers have returned. They are all to a man on their knees; some are talking to the caskets quietly, gently, stroking or patting the flag. Some have their eyes closed in prayer. Some are weeping loudly, others are clinging to each other in embrace. And this is what the Taliban, and those cynical hypocrites back home both share and lack: love for the fallen. I am grateful for what I see, but now I must go to my own private place, to think and ponder all those things. And it is then, only then, that the tears come. LEST WE FORGET

Morning everybody! I wish I wasn't in the midst of working a stretch of night shifts and could be making cards and posting on my blog. I'm hoping to do some creating this weekend, but since DH is being deployed for 2 months(approx) next Wed, time at home with him will be short and I should spend some quality time with him............if I can get him away from his computer long enough. LOL

I wanted to share this card that I made last week using the PTI Quilters sampler set, PTI aqua mist paper, and a Swiss Dot Cuttlebugged background. I love handmade quilts and aqua has been a favorite color of mine for a long time. I trimmed each quilt square so that they fit together like a wedding circle quilt would.

Ok.......this isn't going to be anything profound or deep. Just didn't want to head to bed tonight with my poor blog not having a post on it. That would be like putting it to bed nekkid or somethin'. Almost midnight here and I'll be back tomorrow to post some cards and whatever else I can figure out to post here. Once I get everything up and running, I'll definitely have to offer some blog candy as a way of celebrating my new blog. By the way.......I won some Kitchen Sink Stamps today from the CPS Blog Hop!
